Seeing Results: Patience, Self-Compassion & the Power of Self-Talk

Jul 05, 2024

Recently, during one of our weekly Strategy Sessions, we focused on the importance of patience and the way we speak to ourselves.

One of our patients shared her struggle with not being where she expected to be in her fitness journey. This feeling of being behind had led to frustration and tears. Her honesty and vulnerability highlighted a critical aspect of our community: the therapeutic power of being open and real.

It's a reminder that we're not alone in our struggles, and sharing our experiences can be healing for ourselves and others.

It’s essential to treat ourselves with kindness and understanding, acknowledging that progress takes time and setbacks are part of the journey.

Celebrating Wins and Progress: Even amidst challenges, celebrating small victories is vital. Whether it’s progress in mindset, nutrition, or physical activity, each step forward deserves recognition. These moments not only motivate but also build momentum towards long-term health and wellness.

Shifting from Scarcity to Abundance :Many of us struggle with feeling behind or not achieving our goals quickly enough. This scarcity mindset can hinder progress. Instead, embrace an abundance mindset:

  • Acknowledge Your Efforts: Celebrate every positive step, no matter how small.
  • Practice Self-Compassion: Be patient with yourself and recognize that growth is a journey.
  • Focus on Growth: Enjoy the process of becoming healthier, rather than fixating on the end result.

Real-Life Examples of Overcoming Obstacles: Many of our patients face chronic pain and limitations, such as bone-on-bone knee conditions or multiple lumbar and cervical surgeries.

One inspiring patient shared her journey of overcoming back surgery complications. Her progress has been years in the making, a testament to the power of perseverance and hope.

*If you find yourself thinking, "I'm not where I want to be"

Remember that these are limiting beliefs.

Check the way you talk to yourself.

Are those thoughts true?

Could they be proven in a court of law?

Likely not.

Give yourself credit where it's due.

Tailoring Exercise to Your Life: Finding the right exercise routine that fits your lifestyle is key. For example, the patient we discussed earlier enjoys walking with her dog and engaging in upper body activities. By focusing on what feels good and achievable, she's more likely to stay active and build muscle mass over time.

Creating Confidence and Taking Action: Confidence starts from within. Believe in your ability to make positive changes. Cultivate thoughts that empower you to take consistent action towards your health goals.

Confidence and determination fuel progress.

Building a Supportive Environment: Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage your growth. Choose relationships that support your journey to better health. A supportive community can provide invaluable motivation and accountability.

Mindset First, Results Follow: Your mindset shapes your reality. Start with a positive outlook and authenticity. Recognize your strengths and the qualities that make you unique. A healthy mindset lays the foundation for achieving lasting results.

Your Journey, Your Pace: There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to health. Embrace the ups and downs, knowing each experience contributes to your growth. Setbacks are opportunities to learn and adjust.

Trust your journey and be kind to yourself along the way.

Takeaway:

What affirmation can you create to nurture your confidence daily?

Remember, progress takes time, and comparing your journey to others’ only diminishes your achievements.

Stay committed to self-care and surround yourself with positivity.
